PROJECT 2
CASE STUDY - GREEN BUILDINGS IN MALAYSIA
Green Buildings are on the rise. More and more architects and developers consider environmental factors in their designs and projects. However, buildings that achieve a better energy performance and create comfortable and healthy living and working environments are still not receiving the attention they deserve in public opinion and media. Yet decarbonizing our built environment and reducing the impact our buildings have on the built environment are an important step to limit global climate change and mitigating its impact. Therefore, and for the sake of learning important lessons from already built green building architecture, this assignment calls for a case study.
THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS ASSIGNMENT:
• Raise awareness and increase public recognition of the importance of green buildings in addressing climate change and creating healthy environments.
• Facilitate learning on green building through conducting a case study to extract and share valuable insights on applied environmental strategies.
• Promote sustainable practices in architecture encouraging a shift towards more environmentally conscious building designs.
This project is a group project and each group is required to conduct research for relevant information of “green” buildings accredited by national or international accrediting bodies (GBI, LEED, BREEAM, etc.) and assemble and reflect on the applied environmental strategies of one selected building. The case study research should involve a visit of the investigated building whenever possible. All collected information must be presented on an A1 poster and a one minute summary video for social media sharing. The green building that my group has chosen is the MENARA KERJA RAYA.
